The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) is a pan African organization headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya which aims to drive sustainable development in Africa through science technology and innovation. It has a tripartite mandate of pursuing excellence by recognizing scholars and achievers; providing advisory and think tank functions for shaping the continent’s strategies and policies; and implementing key science, technology and innovation programmes that impact on developmental challenges through the new agenda setting and funding platform, the Alliance for Accelerating Excellence in Science in Africa (AESA).

As part of new sustainability initiative, AAS seeks to engage competent Architects in coming up with design for developing the current campus into a futuristic income generating campus. The campus is situated in Karen.


The main objective of this assignment is to develop a design model for the AAS Campus which will address the following:

  • Income generation activities
  • provide a scholarly environment for various activities,
  • showcase of some African inspiring innovations.
  • Green underlying design philosophy (solar, water recycling, and energy efficient building).

Scope of the assignment

The successful architect will be required to work with the AAS to develop the concept to enable the development of a model to inform and solicite support and partnerships from various stakeholders.


The Architect is expected to work and deliver the final report within 1 month from date of signing of the contract.

Preparation of Expression of Interest Document

Evaluation / Requirements

This invitation for Expression of Interest (EOI) seeks to shortlist eligible architects who will be invited to submit technical and financial proposals (RFP) to carry out Consultancy Services on design of AAS Campus.

Interested individuals or organisations are required to demonstrate that they have the requisite capacity, experience to undertake the assignment.

The following minimum criteria MUST be met: -

Mandatory Requirements

  1. Certificate of business incorporation
  2. Valid tax compliance
  3. Company profile
  4. Valid registration with the architectural body of Kenya
  5. Demonstrate ability and capacity to undertake the assignment.
  6. Provide evidence of experience from 3 reputable organizations
  7. Provide estimate cost to undertake this assignment.

Interested architects shall submit their “EXPRESSION OF INTEREST (EOI) FOR DESIGN OF AAS CAMPUS - AAS/EOI/001/2018” strictly to  Expressions of Interest sent to any other address will not be considered.

All inquiries in regard to the EOI should be sent the same e-mail address 5 days before the closing date.

To be received by 31st January, 2018 at 12.00 noon. The EOI documents will be opened, evaluated and results communicated to all within two weeks after closing date.
