Organization Overview

The AAS is a pan African organisation headquartered in Kenya, which aims to drive sustainable development in Africa through science, technology and innovation. It has a tripartite mandate of pursuing excellence by recognising scholars and achievers; providing advisory and think tank functions for shaping the continent’s strategies and policies; and implementing key Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) programmes that impact on developmental challenges through the agenda setting and funding platform, the Alliance for Accelerating Excellence in Science in Africa (AESA).

Position Overview

The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) seeks to enshrine research management at the heart of the research support system, supporting institutions and their researchers by delivering a co-ordinated programme of development for non-academic professionals, defining career pathways, enhancing personal skillsets, developing peer support networks, and creating communities of practice. To develop and define the research management programme, the AAS has been gathering input from various stakeholders including at a “Towards a Research Management Programme for Africa and India Meeting” held in June. The AAS recorded the two-day meeting to enable it to adequately represent the views of stakeholders in a report.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Type the recording to produce a written document.
  • Sorting information per strategic priorities of the proposed research management programme
  • Processes transcribed documents for grammar and spelling
  • Compiling information provided by participants on sticky notes to facilitate the writing of the report
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed
  • Transcribing AAS videos
  • Any other duties assigned by the Research Systems Manager
