The African Academy of Sciences’ Governing Council has unanimously appointed Prof Dominic Makawiti to serve as the Acting Treasurer of the Academy.
Professor Makawiti is Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Nairobi. He is distinguished scientist with an illustrious career with rich experiences in research, leadership and management. He has chaired major national and international committees and was also Vice Chancellor of Maseno University in Western Kenya.
His research interests cover biochemical endocrinology and he holds the Head of State Commendation (HSC) awarded by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Kenya.
Professor Makawiti’s distinguished service as Vice Chancellor, and his additional qualification of MBA degree from the University of Nairobi will allow him to add much value to the role he will play as Treasurer of the Academy and as member of the Management Committee, the Governing Council and as ex-officio member of the Audit and Risk Committee of AAS.
Prof Makawiti’s appointment is effective from 22 August 2016.
Prof Makawiti has been a Fellow of the AAS since 2013 and is a Fellow and Vice Chairman of the Kenya National Academy of Sciences.
